5 Tips to Prepare Your Skin for Winter

prepare-your-skin-for-winter

As the seasons transition from fall to winter, it’s essential to protect your skin. Winter brings with it cold temperatures, blustery winds and more time spent indoors with forced-air heating. These conditions can make your skin feel dry, dull and itchy and even lead to uneven skin tone. This winter, keep your skin soft, glowing and gorgeous with some of our favorite skin care tips that will leave your skin feeling healthy and happy all winter long.

Winterize Your Skincare Routine

#1 HYDRATE

Water is essential for our bodies and our skin to work at their best. One way to support healthy skin is by staying hydrated. It can be difficult to sip cold water during the winter months, so instead of drinking chilled water, try some warming herbal teas like peppermint, cinnamon, or ginger. You can even sip on a mug of warm bone broth. Bonus: Bone broth is loaded with collagen, which is great for your hair, skin, and nails.

#2 EXFOLIATE

Exfoliation removes dead skin cells from the surface of the epidermis, which ultimately relieves your body of dull, dry skin. By removing these dead skin cells, your pores are free from being clogged and your skin is left feeling clean and refreshed. One of our favorite ways to exfoliate is by using an Exfoliating Body Scrub, which leaves skin silky smooth. You can also use an Activated Charcoal Bar or try dry brushing, which helps circulation, supports your lymphatic system and allows moisturizers to better penetrate your skin.

#3 MINIMIZE HOT BATHS AND SHOWERS

There is nothing more luxurious than a hot bubble bath or shower after a long day, but unfortunately, hot water can quickly dry out skin. Minimize your time spent in a hot shower or bath and opt for using warm water instead. If hot showers and baths are a non-negotiable, then replace some of the lost moisture from your skin by using a good quality moisturizer like our Tallow Beauty Balm or soothing body butter. Made from a blend of nutrient-dense fats and oils, both balms are tailored specifically to repair and nourish delicate skin cells. Bonus: Get a shower filter that removes harsh, drying toxins like chlorine and fluoride from your shower water and keeps your hormones healthier throughout the year as well.

#4 MOISTURIZE

During the winter months, skin benefits from the application of nourishing oils, especially if you live in an extremely cold climate with bone-chilling winds and freezing temperatures. Apply an oil like grape seed or sweet almond oil before bed or use our Soothing Body Butter. Made with a blend of nourishing fats and organic oils, your skin will feel hydrated and replenished. Don’t forget to apply it to your hands and feet!

#5 LOAD UP ON VITAMIN C

Cold winter weather usually has us reaching for our Vitamin-C supplements, but don’t forget your skin. Adding Vitamin-C to your skincare routine boosts your skin’s defenses and provides antioxidant support. Healthy skin provides a natural barrier, keeping in the good stuff and keeping out the bad stuff. Our Vitamin C Serum will rejuvenate skin cells leaving you with a bright, clear complexion, while helping to create a healthy, strong skin barrier, but we suggest it in an internal supplement form as well.
