Our mission is to source the purest, cleanest and most sustainable ingredients we possibly can so you not only know they are 100% safe for your skin but are also leaving a smaller impact on our world.
We carefully choose each of the ingredients in our products for their unique healing properties and get over-the-moon excited about Mother Nature’s bounty when it comes to beautiful skin.
To get a fuller understanding of our product ingredients, read below on their individual benefits. Not every single ingredient is included, but the ones with the most nutritional value have been deciphered.
But first, Why Tallow?
Beef tallow is the wonderful, healing fat rendered from pasture-raised, grass-fed cows. Human skin cells are made up of mostly fatty acids, so stripping our face of these naturally occurring oils and sebum can have seriously negative consequences. The reason we choose tallow for our skincare products is because it matches up so closely with human skin biology. Human skin is protected by a substance called sebum and, interestingly, tallow closely matches with human sebum when it comes to its fatty acid profile. Therefore, adding in fats and oils to our skin care regiment allows our cells to stay hydrated, healthy and supple. Tallow also contains significant amounts of Conjugated Linoleic Acid which is naturally antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory and has anti-cancer properties. But our favorite reason for making tallow our MVP is because it is 100% non-toxic and safe for everyone from babies, grandparents and pets and everyone in between!
Some of our other favorites
Organic Grape Seed Oil
Grape seed oil is the light, moisturizing oil from, well, the seeds of grapes! While there are many benefits to grape seed oil, one of the best ones is that it’s full of linoleic acid, a polyunsaturated acid known to be found in large amounts in human skin cells – again, making it a great match for rehydrating and replenishing lost oils from cleansing and environmental factors. Grape seeds also contain an unusually high amount of antioxidants, including both vitamin C and vitamin E, making it great for brightening, anti-aging and moisture all in one.
Frankincense Essential Oil
Frankincense is a powerful astringent, which simply means that it acts as a skin protectant. Some of the ways Frankincense works on skin is by reducing: blemishes, wrinkles, fine lines, large pores and uneven skin tone. Because of it’s ability to reduce inflammation and increase circulation, Frankincense is the perfect oil when it comes to keeping skin glowy and radiant.
Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender has long been known for its benefits in relaxing the nervous system, but less talked about are it’s benefits in skin health. In the same way it soothes and nourishes the mind, lavender soothes skin with its high anti-oxidant and anti-microbial properties. In fact, lavender has even been shown to fight infections such as candida albicans and staph aureus. It’s also amazing at healing burns, cuts and scrapes, making it wonderful for sensitive, dry and damaged skin. Lastly, lavender’s smell is one that calms and relaxes the mind, making it a wonderful addition to any skin care routine!
Helichrysum Essential Oil
Helichrysum oil is one of our absolulte favorite skin heroes because it plays so many roles in keeping skin healthy, young and replenished! Helichrysum is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, cancer-blocking, wound healing and acts like a free-radical scavenger fighting off sun damage, uneven skin tone and other signs of aging. We use it as a natural skin brightener in our formulas, but the benefits are vast and varied.
Turmeric is the golden spice found in many popular curry dishes, but also known for its powerful anti-inflammatory effects on the human body. Arguably, holds more potential than any other medicinal plant for pain management, which is why it’s the key ingredient in our warming balm. The key to it’s anti-inflammatory benefits (which outperform nsaids and pharmaceutical-grade drugs) lies in its abundant amount of curcumin, the inflammation busting curcuminoid compound. Not only does it actively reduce pain at the site of application, but it absorbs into the skin where its healing effects can readily aide other body systems for an all-around benefit with any nasty side effects.
Cayenne Essential Oil
Cayenne oil is a special herb because it directly affects pain signals in the brain making it extra effective for issues like sore muscle, achy joints or menstrual cramps. Cayenne pepper contains a plant compound known as capsaicin which is responsible for blocking substance P, a chemical in the skin that relays pain to the brain. Capsaicin also increases blood flow to the area leading to healing and pain relief. We love cayenne for it’s gentle warming properties which feel wonderful on painful areas and sore muscles.
Organic Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is used in the health and wellness community as a cure-all-pill of sorts, and that’s because it just has so many fantastic benefits. Loaded with both saturated and medium-chain fatty acids, it’s a naturally soothing, healing and moisturizing oil. While it needs to be mixed with heavier fats for total moisture, we love it for it’s anti-fungal, anti-microbial and anti-cancer benefits, all of which lend to healthy, glowing, reaction-free skin. And, our favorite part, it smells extra yummy!
Organic Olive Oil
Many people have heard about the internal, nutrition-based benefits of olive oil, but aren’t aware that it has amazing protective benefits for skin health as well. Olive oil is packed full of three major antioxidants - Vtamin E, polyphenols and phytosterols - which all help to restore vitality, texture and radiance and protect against environmental damage. Olive oil is also full of moisturizing fats that helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and sun damage.
Organic Goat’s Milk
The reason we love goat’s milk for skin health is because is contains very specific acids (AHAs), including lactic acid, which help to exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin cells. This sped up process leaves skin feeling smooth, radiant and soft, which we don’t think anyone will complain about! We take care to source from pasture-raised, ethically-treated goats for our milk, especially because we believe that happy animals produce happy milks!
